How to protect your teaching license

Working as a teacher is one of the most thankless and stressful jobs out there today. You are responsible for not only teaching the youth of Ohio, but also responsible for keeping them safe while in your care. Here are some important tips for protecting your teaching license in Cleveland.

A teacher is expected to provide the same degree of care for their students as other teachers would in similar situations. This degree of care varies based on the age of the students and the activities in which they are involved.

Teachers must avoid negligent behavior at all costs. This is especially true when it comes to the duty of care. A teacher proven to be negligent is one who owed the student a duty of care, the teacher breached the duty of care, the student suffered some type of injury and there has to be a connection between the breach of care by the teacher and the injury suffered by the student.

Teachers can avoid issues with their educational license by making sure their classroom is a safe place for students. You must do everything possible to warn students of possible dangers when in the classroom. Teachers are tasked with providing three things: supervision, instruction and safety for all students.

Teachers should also use good judgment to avoid intentional activities that could harm students. This includes physical assault, sexual assault, slander and libel.

If your teaching license is in jeopardy of being suspended or revoked, it's in your best interests to speak with an experienced administrative litigation attorney in Cleveland about your situation.
