Licenses For Medical Marijuana Testing Labs
Labs interested in testing medical marijuana must be licensed. In Ohio, public university testing labs may be licensed for the testing of medical marijuana, as may privately held testing labs. Unlike other medical marijuana licenses offered by the state, there is not currently a cap on the number of medical marijuana testing lab licenses offered.
While there may not be a cap, the rules for obtaining and keeping a medical marijuana test lab are still rigid. For example, as part of the application process, test labs must provide a list of SOPs (standard operating procedures) that can be up to 60 pages long, with the full text of the SOPs available upon request for review. A lab must have everything in order if interested in obtaining the license required to ensure the safety and efficacy of medical marijuana that is reaching patients. Further, everything must be kept in order to maintain the license.
While these are Ohio’s rules specifically and each state has its own, they are all similar in their complexity.
Guidance In Obtaining, Maintaining And Protecting A Testing License
Prospective licensees and current licensees will quickly become acquainted with a number of state regulatory agencies overseeing medical marijuana. They will find that it is crucial to maintain a positive relationship with these agencies. They can benefit from working with an attorney who has a history with these agencies and understands their processes.
